Health Guidelines

If a child becomes ill or gets injured at school, the parent must be notified. Please make sure we have accurate and up-to-date information throughout the year. Please report any change in address or phone number to the school promptly so that the school can reach you if necessary.

Hamilton County School policy is that any student with a temperature of 100.0 degrees or above, be sent home. Other reasons your child is to be sent home include: lice/knits, unknown rash, toothache, diarrhea, suspected communicable diseases, suspected pink eye, vomiting, and ear aches. Students may be sent home for other illness or first aid issues per the school staff’s assessment. Only students that are sent home by our staff for illness will receive an excused absence.

MEDICATION POLICY

ALL medication that is to be taken at school must be prescribed by a doctor. The proper Hamilton County medication forms must be completed and on file before any medication can be administered. This includes over the counter medications such as: Tylenol, ibuprofen, throat spray, cough drops, eye drops, ear drops, and medicated creams (Benadryl, Neosporin, hydrocortisone, etc.).  You can find the full HCDE medication policy by clicking here.

All medications must be brought to the school by an adult. Medications are not to be carried to/from school by students. It is against HCDE policy for students to have drugs in their possession, this includes medication. Students may be expelled if caught with medications in their possession. This is for the safety of all students. All medications must be in the drug-store issued container and should include:

Ø  name of student

Ø  name of doctor

Ø  directions

Ø  name of medication

Ø  prescription number
