Arrival & Dismissal

Our school doors open at 7:30am. Bus riders must enter through the front doors and car riders must enter through the back doors. Students are permitted to enter the school at 7:30a.m. Please plan accordingly as our teachers do not report to duty until this time. Breakfast is available from 7:30 a.m. until 7:50 a.m. Your child must arrive before 7:50 a.m. in order to receive breakfast. The doors to the dining hall will close at 7:50 a.m. Learning at Calvin Donaldson begins PROMPTLY at 8:00a.m.

Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be counted TARDY. Again, learning at Calvin Donaldson begins at 8:00 a.m. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. MUST be accompanied to the office and signed in by a parent or adult guardian. All excessive tardies will be reported to the appropriate school officials and magnet students with excessive tardies will be asked to return to their zoned school. Please make sure your child arrives on time so he/she doesn’t miss any learning opportunities.

Classroom instruction continues until 2:50 p.m. The full school day is important for all students. If you must check out your child prior to dismissal, please report to the office. You will be asked to sign a register and may be asked to show picture ID. The office staff will call the student for dismissal. Parents should not go to the classroom to dismiss their child. Students will only be allowed to leave with persons listed on their enrollment card. A parent/guardian must provide a written note if someone else has been given permission to pick his/her child up from school.

Students may not be dismissed from school between 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Regular dismissal procedures must be followed after that time. Any changes in transportation MUST be reported to the staff no later than 2:30 p.m. This is to ensure a safe, orderly dismissal each day.

*If there will be a change in your child’s transportation, please make arrangements the evening before and send a note with your child the next morning. We ask that a note be sent regarding any changes in transportation. Calls to the office should be limited to emergency situations only.  Daily phone calls for transportation changes will not be accepted. 

* It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to inform and provide the school with current documentation if anyone is legally restricted from contact with a child.
